  Corvettes on the Coast
  Qld Corvette Club Concourse
  Broadwater Parklands, Southport
  15th September 2013

I'd like to believe the perfect way to finish a fantastic day is to begin with a thank you.

To Brad & Sandy and the dedicated group of wonderful volunteers, our generous sponsors, fellow club members, members of visiting clubs, Gold Coast City Council and members of the public - I extend a heart felt thank you on behalf of everyone who enjoyed the day.

And, what a day!  The most enjoyable full club day I've seen in a long time.  The Broadwater Parklands is a wonderful venue for an event of this size and calibre.

A big day requires an early start and our band of Concourse workers were at the venue before 6:30.  The job list was divided at the last club meeting and everyone knew their tasks.  So many jobs and so little time.  Magically, everything came together under Brad's watchful eye and a lazy Sunday transformed into an exciting event.

We welcomed members from the following clubs:  Corvettes Down Under, Mustang Owners Club, Pontiac Club, Buick Club and Caddy Club who all brought their own special brand to share at our party.  I thank the kind members of these great clubs for taking a day of their weekend to help make our concourse even more appealing to the public by providing a wonderful variety of American Cars for all to enjoy.

We welcomed 82 Corvettes to the event plus another 34 machines from guest clubs to create an exciting muscle car buffet to satisfy the causal observer and enthusiast alike.

The day began with a great drive down the motorway from Brisbane to Southport on Queensland's beautiful Gold Coast.  The road was quiet, the air cool and the sky a perfect blue.  From out of no-where, the thickest blanket of fog engulfed our cars from Underwood through to Beenleigh - certainly an unusual sight at this time of year however, this usually heralds a beautiful day.  And, what a day!  The clearest blue sky with a gentle south east breeze, enough to help maintain the perfect temperature.

Members of the public visited the display the entire day and took the opportunity to enjoy the food and refreshment stalls associated with the event.  I have the feeling our friend Mr Whippy may have enjoyed a very busy day as it was perfect ice cream weather.  (mind you, any weather is great ice cream weather for me)

Our judges had their work cut out with a greater number of new categories scrutinised this year and an abundance of exceedingly high quality cars.  I'm still waiting for the introduction of the 1976 - 1984 Convertible class, might actually take a trophy with that one.  With the assessment complete, everyone gathered in front of the stage for the highlight of the day - the trophy presentations.  Please scroll down for a complete list of trophy winners.

Then it was back to the reliable volunteers to pack everything away while most of the entrants and guests departed.

Thank you again to our organisers, volunteers, sponsors, club members, guests and members of the public for helping stage our biggest day and one of the Qld Corvette community's annual highlights.
