    Thanksgiving at Lakeside
    9th November 2014

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November in the USA.  The muscle car celebration at Lakeside has previously always been close to the end of the month.  This year Queensland Raceways decided to change the format and he date.  The 9th November is not close to the 4th Thursday and perhaps it was the date change as well as the format changes that resulted in the poor attendance.  The format changes effectively precluded “club under cover” approaches and the increased cost no doubt had an influence.  It was a shame to see so much open space.  On the plus side there was no queuing for the toilets or food outlets.  The VIP runs attracted the most vehicles and as such it was a bit like peak hour traffic.  However the other runs, at $10.00 per car, were god with, for example, run #6 having fewer than 20 vehicles. Mike Gocs, Matt and Marvy, Bryan Wharton, Bill Dixon and myself left Shell Nudgee at about 7.30 am for uneventful run to Lakeside where we caught up with Peter Mellor.  After a bit of juggling we were all able to carported close to one another and beside the Down Under Vettes.  John Webro arrived later and we got him carported opposite us.

Bill Dixon got to drive his 502 C2 coupe on the track and he flogged it.  The grin on his face is a permanent fixture.  The car certainly goes as good as it looks.Mike Gocs knocked up taking photo’s and adding to his number plate records.  He now has a huge list.

Disappointing day in some respects but we had fun.

Cheers Keith Hosking
